Expert Talk on Emerging Therapeutic Strategies for Neurodegenerative Diseases
July 28 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
The Department of Biological Sciences is organising an Expert Talk on Emerging Therapeutic Strategies for Neurodegenerative Diseases. The resource person, Dr Maheedhar Kodali, will lead the session and offer students insights on the latest advances in treatment approaches and research findings.
About the Speaker:
Dr Maheedhar Kodali, Ph.D., research scientist at the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics at the Texas A&M University College of Medicine, has over 13 years of research experience at TAMU. He has served as the principal investigator for two extramural grants funded by the Department of Defense and has contributed to 40 research articles in peer-reviewed journals in the field of neuroscience. Since 2012, Dr Kodali has been actively involved in a series of investigations on aspects of extracellular vesicle/drug-mediated brain repair mechanisms in neurodegenerative conditions, including traumatic brain injury, Gulf War Illness, brain ageing, and Alzheimer’s disease, in Dr Shetty’s laboratory. He has received approximately 2660 citations with an h-index of 30. Dr Kodali has been engaged in characterising cognitive and mood impairments and transcriptomic alterations modulating signalling cascades in brain cells (neurons, microglia, and astrocytes), including neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, mTOR signalling, autophagy, mitophagy, synaptogenesis, and hippocampal neurogenesis in preclinical models of neurodegenerative diseases. In addition, Dr Kodali serves as an editorial board member in reputed journals and a scientific member of IUCAC, TAMU. Dr Kodali’s research is focused on unravelling the fundamental mechanisms driving the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative diseases. Additionally, the research explores potential therapeutic interventions to enhance the understanding of brain resilience and recovery in the face of these neurological challenges.
