The Paari School of Business has organised a transformative two-day Young Investor Education Workshop on “Financial Education for Young Citizens” for MBA students on February 26-27, 2024, led by finance expert Dr Vijaya Kumar Chilukuri from NISM. The sessions covered diverse finance intricacies and career strategies. Certificates were awarded to participants who cleared the examination, adding value to their academic journey. A Pre-assessment and post-assessment were conducted, which helped students understand their learning journey. Dr Chilukuri’s expertise and his interactive sessions left a lasting impact on all the students, and they actively participated in learning many key concepts of savings and investments. These workshops conducted by the school align with SRM AP’s commitment to holistic education and student success.

Success Mantra for Managers

Paari School of Business, the management precinct of SRM University-AP, hosted a dynamic panel discussion titled “Success Mantras for Managers” with experienced entrepreneurs and industry experts. The four-member panel consisted of industry stalwarts from various fields of management and the keynote speaker, Mr Mukesh Jain, who is the CTO, VP & Global Head of People Analytics.

During the event, Prof. Bharadhwaj Sivakumaran, the Dean of the Paari School of Business, explained the purpose and significance of the event. He highlighted that the panelists had gained practical experience by failing and bouncing back, as well as observing and learning from people throughout their careers, and could provide insights on what it takes to succeed in the corporate world. Mr Mukesh Jain, the keynote speaker, shared his wisdom and motivation during the event. He stated, “the key skill one needs to possess as an entrepreneur is to have a good understanding of how things work”.

The panel discussion that followed Mr Jain’s speech was moderated by Mr Sidharth Shankar Tripathy, a Harvard alumnus and the present Director of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at SRM University-AP. The discussion was insightful and inspiring as Mr Tripathy posed thought-provoking questions to the panel members.

Mr Tripathy started the discussion with a stimulating idea, stating that a mantra is a successful formula that has the power to transform. He questioned the panel members about the criticality of the idea of corporate athleticism and received an astounding response from Mr Nayanjyoti Goswami, Managing Director, Finance Operations & Strategy, State Street, who stated that it is often less about degrees and more about one’s attitude to work.

Mr Satish Rajarathnam, Head of People & Administration, RCG Global Services emphasised the need for collaboration and networking as a leader. He also highlighted the importance of functional knowledge, communication, networking and marketing skills. Ms Jyothsana Kuchimanchi, Senior Director- United Health Group, explained that change is an integral part of a manager’s life, and a manager should always be ready to adapt and upskill oneself to cope with changes.

Mr Anandan Jayaraman, COO FCC, Society Generale Global Solution Centre discussed the need for a manager to empathise with the customer and team members by putting himself in their shoes. The dynamic members of the panel cited the importance of self-learning and self-training, which can motivate team members, suggesting that a leader is a reader and should always update and upskill himself.

The panel discussion was an absolute game-changer. The insights shared by the speakers were incredibly valuable and contributed to the student’s understanding of what it takes to be a successful manager.

Success Mantras for Managers

FDP Centre for Consumer Research in India, under the aegis of Paari School of Business, recently organised a dynamic and contemporary five-day Faculty Development Program. This innovative program delved into cutting-edge topics, showcasing the forefront of consumer research.

The hybrid-mode FDP witnessed enthusiastic participation from all PhD students and faculty members of PSB, fostering a vibrant environment of knowledge exchange. What added to the richness of this academic endeavor was the inclusion of 20 participants from various other prestigious B-schools.

Distinguished anchors for the FDP included luminaries in the field like Prof. Raj Sethuraman from Cox School of Business, Southern Methodist University; Prof. Ramkumar Janakiraman from Darla Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina; Prof. Piyush Sharma from the School of Management and Marketing, Curtin University, Australia; Prof. Tak Yan Leung, Associate Professor, School of Business and Creative Industries, University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia; Prof. Bharadhwaj Sivakumaran, Dean, Paari School of Business.

Speakers talked about new technologies in omni channel retail and big data in retailing, empirical models in Marketing. Then, Professors Piyush Sharma and Tak Yan Leung gave individual and personalized feedback to all participants on their research. Finally, Prof. Bharadhwaj Sivakumaran gave tips on how to publish papers on systematic literature reviews. All in all, it was a dream come true for participants; they soaked in a rich treasure trove of information from a globally acclaimed panel.

This collaborative initiative aimed to explore the evolving landscape of consumer research, bridging academic insights with real-world applications. The FDP not only enhanced the knowledge base of participants but also fostered a global network of scholars dedicated to advancing consumer research in India and beyond.

The Centre for Consumer Research in India (CCRI) has secured its first industry-funded project. Afterthought Feedback Services, a leading and eminent Marketing Research (MR) company in Hyderabad, funded a project titled “Awareness of Unhealthy Food Consumed by Indian Consumers: An Empirical Analysis” to the tune of Rs 1.5 lakhs. The project will be executed by Prof. Bharadhwaj Sivakumaran, Dr Mohd Danish Kirmani and Dr Vimal Babu. More than ten students from the BBA and MBA programmes would help in doing the project as well. The project would study the extent to which employees consume unhealthy food and suggest ways of making employees eat healthy food. Mr Rahul Pulupudi, CEO of Afterthought Feedback Services, handed over the cheque to Prof. Bharadhwaj Sivakumaran, Dean-Paari School of Business. CCRI thanks Afterthought Feedback Services for its kind gesture!

The project would be of help to the Paari School of Business in general and its students in particular; and also be of help to society at large.

Dr Vimal Babu, Associate Professor and Mr Selvakumar R, Research Scholar from the Department of Management, Paari School of Business has published a fascinating book chapter titled “Crisis Management and Social Media Platforms: A Review and Future Research Agenda” in the book Social Capital in the Age of Online Networking: Genesis, Manifestations, and Implications examining their perspectives on the ever-changing digital ecosystem and its repercussions.

In this chapter, we research duo has made a concerted effort to advance the understanding of crisis management using social media platforms (Social networking sites). Crisis management encompasses a broader spectrum of crisis leadership, and utilising social media platforms (SMPs) for crisis management (CM) has become the modern approach to handling crisis events. Recognising the importance of exploring and advancing crisis leadership concepts to enhance the existing body of knowledge, his work is the first to employ a bibliometric approach to investigate this area, contributing to the nascent literature on the subject. The unique insights garnered from this analysis are expected to provide valuable guidance to researchers and scholars interested in this emerging field.

The book “Social Capital in the Age of Online Networking” digs into the fascinating growth of relationships and connections in the virtual sphere in a digital era when clicks matter as much as handshakes. This edited volume reveals the pattern of our modern networked society, linking theoretical ideas and real-world implementations. The book’s objective is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the current and prospective state of theory and applications of this phenomenon, and it will benefit researchers, government and private research institutions, business corporations, and students in various fields such as business, economics, information technology, psychology, medicine, and humanities.

The exhibition was a successful platform for students to display their knowledge and understanding of Design Thinking and have constructive discourse on this novel and innovative topic!

The Paari School of Business invited Mr Siddharth Tripathi, Founder and CEO of Skillizen Learning, for a Guest Talk on the “Seven Mantras of Entrepreneurship”. In the talk held on November 14, 2023, Mr Tripathi extensively discussed the key strategies and skills required to gain entrepreneurial success. He enlightened that the term ‘Entrepreneurship’ originates from the French language but derives its innermost inspiration from the Sanskrit word ‘Antah Prerna’. He enlightened the students that an entrepreneur should always have original and innovative ideas and sound domain knowledge.

During his session, Mr Tripathi stated, “The world belongs to the change agent” emphasising that young entrepreneurs must always focus on becoming change agents who can change the norms of the world. He also highlighted that there is no right strategy for successful entrepreneurship. The key to success in entrepreneurship is financial capital as well as social capital, as networking is crucial for the development of the company and critical to entrepreneurial success. Mr Tripathi encouraged budding ventures claiming that in the tortoise and rabbit race in entrepreneurship, the rabbit always wins, but the tortoise comes back with a solid stay, sharing that the fastest launcher will always be the first.

Paari School of Business is committed to nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit among its students. The school had invited Dr Gaurav Arora, Global Entrepreneur at Enhance (Luxury Hospitality and Tourism Representation), to deliver an inspiring lecture on October 11, 2023. The lecture titled “Entrepreneurship: Nurturing Innovation, Profitability, and Business Growth” encapsulated key insights for budding entrepreneurs.

Dr Arora dispelled the notion that entrepreneurship is an exclusive venture, asserting that anyone can dare to dream and embark on this journey. He highlighted the importance of enthusiasm, initiative, and teamwork in entrepreneurial success. The lecture showcased the power of keywords such as passion, motivation, and reliability, which serve as the foundation for a successful entrepreneurial career.

He shared valuable experiences in navigating challenges, including the digital transformation his company undertook during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr Arora emphasised self-reliance and the significance of taking initiative to achieve one’s goals. The lecture concluded with a simple yet effective approach to success: Dream, Plan, and Execute. Dr Arora also shared an inspiring success story, “Zerodha” India’s leading stockbroker.

The lecture provided a wealth of insights, encouraging students to embrace creativity, take calculated risks, and maintain a clear vision for their entrepreneurial endeavours.
