The Entrepreneurship Bootcamp 1.0 Demo Day, hosted by the Directorate of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at SRM University-AP on March 31, 2024, marked a fitting culmination of rigorous entrepreneurship training for aspiring student and faculty entrepreneurs. Dynamic pitches were presented by participants through the demonstration of their innovative ideas, astute business models and go-to-market strategies, complemented by sharp & insightful feedback from global investors and world-class mentors. The elite panel of industry mentors included Srikanth Talluri, Founder and CMD of 6D.Works, Rathnakar Samavedam, Investment Director & CEO Hyderabad Angels, Deb Mukherji, Chief Advisor-Anglian Omega Group – India, Siddharth Dangi, Founder & CEO at Mentogram, Singapore, Ravi Eswarapu, President of TIE, CXO turned Entrepreneur and Dr Dhiraj K Mahajan, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Ropar along with Prof. Manoj K Arora, Vice Chancellor of SRM AP.

The Entrepreneurship Boot Camp 1.0 at SRM AP was a comprehensive 6-week cohort featuring 8 interactive sessions carefully curated for a dedicated pool of 60+ selected participants, who immersed themselves in an intensive boot camp guided by Prof. Sidharth Tripathy, a Harvard Alumnus and a Director of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at SRM AP.

Participants navigated the intricacies of ideation, business development, and strategic planning as the curriculum featured world-class case studies, practical implementation roadmaps, and real-time engagements with industry and business mentors of international calibre. From a competitive pool of 180 applicants, a rigorous selection process resulted in the acceptance of only 60 candidates. Further refinement led to the identification of 16 standout ventures. Ultimately, a select group of 10 ventures was chosen to receive a grant of Rs 50,000 each, thereby empowering them to incubate, accelerate, and build their ventures in Hatch Lab Research Centre, the incubator of SRM AP.

The Directorate of Human Resources organised a 2-day Accelerated Academic Leadership Programme 2024, on March 27 and 28, 2024, bringing together the academic community to align with the institute’s mission and strategic goals. This landmark event, organised in collaboration with People Business Consulting, has brought together Mr Kadapa Hanumantha Rao Muralidhar and Vinish Soman from People Business Consulting, Vice Chancellor Prof. Manoj K Arora, Registrar Dr R Premkumar R, Deans and Associate Deans of all schools and HoDs and faculty from all departments.

“Building on the foundation set by last year’s Alignment 360 Workshop, we are focused on achieving our strategic objectives for 2023-28. Our aim is not only to enhance operational excellence but also to foster individual and collective growth within our community of over 7,000 students and 300 faculty members. Our ambitious targets are to position SRM University-AP among the Top 30 universities in India by 2027-28. We are setting benchmarks that reflect our commitment to excellence and the development of our academic team,” said Prof. Manoj Arora.

Prof. Arora also commented on how the university is dedicated to nurturing a vibrant team of young professors, with an average age of 34, signifying the university’s belief in youthful innovation and dynamic leadership. He also spoke exclusively on SRM AP’s culture of continuous learning and growth, guided by 6 core values integral to our institutional ethos.

The campus of SRM University-AP was abuzz with a palpable energy as the Directorate of Student Affairs hosted the electrifying “Mera Pahala Vote Desh ke Liye” (My First Vote for the Nation) initiative on March 07, 2024. In a powerful display of civic engagement, students rallied together to celebrate the essence of democracy and ignite the flame of active citizenship.

The event kicked off with a captivating video screening that transported attendees on a journey through India’s vibrant democratic tapestry. Stories of ordinary citizens whose votes reshaped destinies unfolded before their eyes, reminding them of the transformative power they wield with a single mark on the ballot.

As the last frame faded, a solemn hush fell upon the gathering, and a collective pledge echoed through the halls. Students’ voices, united in purpose, vowed to exercise their constitutional rights and make their voices heard in the democratic process. The atmosphere crackled with determination and a renewed sense of responsibility.

But the celebration didn’t stop there! In a burst of youthful enthusiasm, a dedicated selfie point sprung to life, capturing the infectious energy of the moment. Students eagerly posed, their smiles radiating pride and purpose as they immortalised their commitment to shaping the nation’s future.

SRM University-AP‘s commitment to nurturing responsible citizens was displayed as the institution partnered with the Election Commission of India to kindle the flame of democratic participation. With each selfie shared and pledge taken, a powerful message resounded: the future belongs to those actively shaping it.

UDGAM 2024

SRM University-AP, the proud organiser of the national-level sports event UDGAM-’24, graciously hosted a spectacular display of talent and sportsmanship on its grounds, wrapping up with a heartfelt closing ceremony on Saturday, March 2, 2024. The event, which commenced on February 29, was a testament to the spirit of unity and competitive excellence, with teams from across the nation showcasing their prowess in cricket, kabaddi, and volleyball.

The university extends its warmest congratulations to all the participating teams, especially highlighting the commendable performances of the Guntur Kits Engineering College cricket team, the kabaddi players from Amritasai Engineering College, and the volleyball teams from Saint Ann’s College and Mohan Babu University. Their dedication, skill, and sportsmanship have been the true highlights of this event.

SRM University-AP‘s grounds were alive with enthusiasm and energy, as athletes from various institutions came together to push their limits and celebrate the true spirit of sports. The cricket final was a particularly memorable moment, with the teams displaying exceptional talent and teamwork. The kabaddi and volleyball matches were equally riveting, filled with moments of sheer determination and exemplary skill.

The closing ceremony was a moment of unity and celebration, with Asian Games silver medalist Ms Jyothi Yerraji gracing the occasion to award the trophies to the deserving winners. The university’s registrar, Dr R Premkumar, led the event, emphasising the values of sportsmanship and camaraderie that Udgam- ’24 aimed to promote. The university also took the opportunity to express its gratitude towards all the participants, coaches, and supporting staff who contributed to the success of this grand sporting festivity.

In a humble acknowledgement of the collective effort, the university’s administration, including Dr Prem Kumar and Mr Anil Nigam, Director-Student Affairs, honoured the chief guest and all the participating athletes, appreciating their hard work, spirit, and the joy they brought to the SRM University-AP campus.

SRM University-AP relaunched the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences as the Easwari School of Liberal Arts, establishing a new era of transformative learning and research to address the complexities of human society. The school was inaugurated in the august presence of Pro-Chancellor Dr P Sathyanarayanan; Vice Chancellor Prof. Manoj K Arora; Members of the Governing Body – Prof. Pradeep Khosla, Chancellor, University of California, San Diego, Prof. Nicholas B Dirks, Emeritus Chancellor, University of California, Berkeley, Prof. Prasant Mohapatra, Vice Chancellor for Research and Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, University of South Florida, and Prof. Andrew D Hamilton, President, New York University; Dean – Easwari School of Liberal Arts, Prof. Vishnupad; Deans and Directors of various departments and faculty, staff and students of the university. Prof. Gopal Guru, Former Professor, Center for Political Studies, JNU; Prof. Janaki Bakhle, Associate Professor at the University of California, Berkeley; and Prof. Chandan Gowda, Ramakrishna Hegde Chair Professor, Institute of Social and Economic Change, Bengaluru, graced the momentous occasion as Guests of Honour.

The rechristened Easwari School of Liberal Arts aims to propel students’ intellectual, emotional and ethical growth, equipping them to become future knowledge creators. “The launch of Easwari School of Liberal Arts is a testament to the university’s commitment to interdisciplinary learning and research. Through a sound liberal arts education, we aim to cultivate diversified skills among our students,” remarked Vice Chancellor Prof. Manoj K Arora in his address. Prof. Vishnupad, Dean – Easwari School of Liberal Arts, further expounded on the symbolic renaming of the school and its established imperative to foster a three-fold growth in students – emotional, ethical and intellectual.

Pro-Chancellor, Dr P Sathyanarayanan commented that Easwari School of Liberal Arts opens the doorway to a brave new world of learning that will forge visionary thinkers. The School advocates breaking the academic silos of disciplines and offering students a more comprehensive integrated learning experience. In his address, Prof. Nicholas Dirks, Honourary Pro-Chancellor and a Governing Body member of SRM AP, stated, “Liberal Arts is a constitutive element of comprehensive education. SRM University-AP, with the launch of a dedicated School of Liberal Arts, is on its path to develop into an excellent comprehensive institute of higher education.”

The grand launch also witnessed a keynote speech by Guest of Honour, Prof. Gopal Guru, on the significance of liberal arts education in comprehending, analysing and solving the complexities of postmodern society. Insightful and inspiring book discussions on the books “Savarkar and the Making of Hindutva”, authored by Prof. Janaki Bakhle and “Another India: Events, Memories, People”, by Prof. Chandan Gowda, offering critical insights into the raw sentimentality of Indian society were highlights of the event.

The Easwari School of Liberal Arts harbours a robust, socially relevant, innovative curriculum, a distinguished and committed faculty, and imaginative and engaged teaching and learning methods to cultivate a class of motivated student ambassadors of tomorrow. In addition to offering traditional programmes such as B.A/B.Sc.(Hons.) in English, Economics, History, Psychology and B.Com in International Accounting; the School has also launched three pioneering programmes, namely, B.A. (Hons.) in Politics, Media Studies and Sociology and Anthropology, to equip students on how to address the socio-political, cultural and economic outlook of today’s society. With a novel pedagogy, these innovative programmes nurture logical reasoning, dynamic perspectives, rigour in thought and ideas, and critical reflection among students.

SRM University-AP celebrates the 75th Republic Day with a grand amalgamation of pleasure, pride and patriotism. Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Manoj K Arora unfurled the national flag commemorating India’s journey as a secular, social, republic and democratic nation. The celebration was also joined by the Panchayat secretaries of the neighbouring 5 villages – Neerukonda, Kanteru, Nidamaru, Kuragallu and Pedaparupudi who were felicitated by the Vice Chancellor and Dr Vinayak Kalluri, Dean – Academic Affairs. These villages have been adopted by the university to develop into smart villages through student projects and ventures.

On this momentous day, let us remember the golden heritage of our nation and pay homage to the architect of our constitution, Dr B R Ambedkar. Let us strive towards achieving Viksit Bharat@2047 by channelling the energy and intellect of our youth into developing our nation and society and shaping students into global citizens“, said Prof. Arora as he addressed the campus community that had gathered to celebrate the auspicious day. The Vice Chancellor also emphasised the pivotal role of an educational institution in enlightening the students on constitutional rights and moulding them into reasonable and responsible citizens of the country. He also delivered a comprehensive report on the progress and growth of the university in one academic year highlighting the numerous achievements and recognitions secured by the students, scholars and faculty in academic, research, entrepreneurship and other frontiers.

The Republic Day celebrations commenced with an awarding ceremony where staff who had completed 5 years of service at the university were bestowed with a token of appreciation and gratitude. Students were awarded accolades for victories at various competitions at South Zone championships and Bravery awards were presented to security personnel and staff who rendered their service during calamities. A parade by the university security personnel paying tribute to the country and various cultural programmes by students resonating with patriotic fervour were highlights of the event.

In the Karthik month of the Hindu calendar, a vibrant and eco-friendly celebration, Karthika Vana Mahotsavam took centre stage at SRM University-AP. The varsity honoured the tradition and fostered environmental consciousness with its Vanamahotsavam. This annual event has become a significant tradition in the varsity and draws faculty and staff and their family members from different communities together to celebrate the beauty of the earth and promote sustainable living.

The celebration that took place in the Mango Gardens, near Sri City in Nidamaru saw the participation of members of the leadership including Vice Chancellor, Prof. Manoj K Arora; Registrar, Dr R Premkumar, Directors and former members of the leadership. The Vana Mahotsava intended to honour both nature and celebrate the bond between humans and nature was organised by the Directorate of Human Resource Management.

The event also saw children and families bonding over games and other exciting activities organised by the Directorate. Vanamahotsavam was a holistic way of fostering a sense of responsibility for future generations and served as a reminder that small, concerted efforts can contribute significantly to the global movement for a greener and more sustainable planet

 

The spirit of Christmas echoed through the halls of our campus this year as students, faculty, and staff came together to celebrate the festive season. The Christmas celebration organised by the Directorate of Student Affairs was a grand affair, with enthusiastic participation from key figures, including the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Deans of all schools, and dedicated faculty and staff.

The event saw an inclusive participation of international students, adding a global touch to the festivities. The diverse cultural backgrounds of the international students enriched the celebration, reflecting the unity in diversity that defines the academic community at SRM University-AP.

One of the highlights of the Christmas celebration was the active involvement of the university leadership. The Vice-Chancellor, with a radiant smile, inaugurated the event, setting a joyous tone for the entire gathering. The heart of the celebration was the involvement of both local and international students. The student affairs directorate organised a series of entertaining games and activities that brought everyone together. International students, showcasing their unique talents, not only participated actively but also emerged victorious in several competitions, winning well-deserved prizes.

The event welcomed an illustrious audience, including the principals of some of Kolkata’s most esteemed schools, such as Don Bosco School, National English School, M P Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School, Ashok Hall Girls’ School, Sushila Birla Girls’ School, and Indus Valley World School and many more. SRM University-AP successfully concludes its Freshers’ Party of the year, ALOHA 2023, with extravagance. The two-day freshers’ event was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor, Prof. Manoj K Arora on October 13, 2023, in the presence of Director of Student Affairs, Mr Anil Kumar Nigam, Asst. Director of Student Affairs, Ms Revathi Balakrishnan, Visiting Professor-Paari School of Business, Prof. Prabal K Sen, and the President and Vice President of the Student Council.

“The word ‘Aloha’ embodies compassion and kindness. We welcome you to your second home, SRM University-AP where we will nurture you to be holistic individuals throughout your academic journey” stated Prof. Arora in his inaugural address. The Director of Student Affairs welcomed the freshers into the academic and social community of the university. “SRM University-AP is a place for creating friendships, exploring your potential and being the best version of yourself!” Mr Nigam addressed the freshers.

ALOHA featured a Mr and Ms Freshers’ Contest that witnessed a spectacular display of talent by the students of SRM University-AP. Dhruv Narayan Bajaj and Vaishnavi Kasturi were crowned as the Mr and Ms Fresher of 2023, respectively. Various creative club activities and competitions from photography to dance and music, to anime quiz and cubing, and traditional games such as tug-of-war and Dahi Handi are some of the innumerable activities conducted as part of the freshers’ programme. The event successfully concluded with an exclusive DJ party featuring Project 91, Prithvi Sai and international artist DJ Pozitiva.
