Internship at The Hindu

  • Rajya Lakshmi, Second-year, BA (Hons.) in Liberal Arts
Completed seven-week internship at the Editorial Department of ‘The Hindu’ Daily News Paper Vijayawada Office.
  • The Hindu is one of India's most circulated and prestigious English-language newspapers. During the internship, Rajya Lakshmi worked in diverse fields. She covered the Uppalapadu Bird Sanctuary and press conferences, conducted surveys on daily labourers, undertrials prisoners at the District Jail, courts, and more. Her stint at the courts helped her understand many actual legal cases, thereby identifying the underlying problems of the issues concerned.
  • She published three-line articles in The Hindu state edition with great exposure. Working in the field gave her knowledge and awareness about various sectors. During this internship, she conducted interviews, met officials, and visited places for surveys. She also enhanced her skills through observing, listening, and writing/reporting. This opportunity allowed her to build her personality while getting professional experience.

Internship at Telangana Today

  • Simar Kaur, Second-year, BA (Hons.) in Liberal Arts
Completed a three-week internship at the Hyderabad office of the reputed Telangana Today Newspaper.
  • During the internship, they worked in diverse fields. They covered press meetings in Rainbow Children's Hospital, Deccan Queen in Pandit Nehru Bus Stand and physical education in post and pre-covid in government and private institutions. Working in diverse fields has given them immense knowledge and awareness. Professional space enabled them to build their professional communication skills and writing.

Internship at The New Indian Express

  • Ms Bala Mallikamba and Ms Asritha Panditi, Second-year, BA (Hons.) in Liberal Arts
Completed a four-week internship at the Editorial Department of “The New Indian Express” at the Vijayawada Office.
  • During the internship, they worked in diverse fields. They covered press meetings in Rainbow Children's Hospital, Deccan Queen in Pandit Nehru Bus Stand and physical education in post and pre-covid in government and private institutions. Working in diverse fields has given them immense knowledge and awareness. Professional space enabled them to build their professional communication skills and writing.

International Conference on “New Media and its Publics in India”

  • The Department of Media Studies, ESLA, organized a two-day international seminar titled “New Media and its Publics in India” from April 18 to 19, 2024.
  • The event brought together distinguished figures from both the media industry and academia. Among the notable speakers who delivered insightful and engaging talks were Abhinandan Sekhri (Newslaundry), Prof. Pramod Nayar (University of Hyderabad), Prof. Meheli Sen (Rutgers University), Prof. Ann Feldman (Northwestern University), Rahee Punyashloka (independent artist and filmmaker), Prof. Sambiah Gundimeda (KREA University), and Anuradha Nagaraj (Azim Premji University).
  • The seminar also served as an intellectually stimulating platform for students and scholars from both the host institution and other universities. Over 50 research papers were presented, reflecting diverse perspectives and critical engagements with various aspects of media studies.
